Support Veterans and Families

Imagine a world where veterans and their families have the resources and knowledge to cultivate their own healthy food supply, improving their well-being and reconnecting with the environment. This vision is becoming a reality through VetTech.US’s partnership with Dorsey Farms in the Orchard Park Farming Initiative. Together, we’re empowering veteran families with the tools, education, and guidance they need to grow fresh, nutritious food right in their backyards.

This life-changing program goes beyond just farming; it fosters resilience, strengthens family bonds, and promotes healthier lifestyles. For many veterans, reintegration into civilian life comes with challenges. By equipping them with practical skills and access to sustainable food solutions, the Orchard Park Farming Initiative offers hope, stability, and a way to thrive. It’s more than a gardening project—it’s a pathway to empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Testimonials

Our family moved to Oklahoma three years ago from Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Our hope was to have a property where we could create a self-reliant lifestyle. In our first year we connected with the Dorsey’s to study and with a cooperative effort, get our dream started.  The Dorsey’s provided materials, greenhouse space, and all the training to get started.  Even the chickens were included in the plan.

Today we have an automated raised bed garden system where we grow all organic food for our family.  We have been able to duplicate the greenhouse, automate our garden which includes automatic weed control and watering systems, and establish our own chicken operations. It should be noted, our little piece of land is rocky.

We received materials to help start our gardening system, even the first chickens.  They even included ducks, who get to enjoy our little pond.

Now it is our lifestyle.  We eat organically.  We do it affordably.

Our family remains connected to the Dorsey farm.  We share ideas, challenges, and solutions.  There is always something to learn.  We enjoy the continued relationship with Terry and Lorraine and are grateful they are in our lives.

Four years ago, our family purchased a property in the community of Verdigris, Oklahoma.  We purchased an underground home which was energy efficient. Our plan was to create a self-sustaining homestead that could feed our family healthily and organically.  Little did we know our neighbors just across the street were the very people who would help us get started.

They included us in the training and shared materials to create our first gardens.  From that place we have grown our little farm to include hogs, chickens, and more. Being so close, we have been allowed to participate in raising chickens for meat birds, quail for meat birds, and now we raise our own pork every year.  At present we do not have the greenhouse, but the Dorsey’s have included us in their greenhouse strategy.  Almost all our plants come from the Dorsey’s farm.

As important as the training has been the coop community of others who have enjoyed the same training and have similar goals. We communicate about new plants, new ideas, even the problems we encounter. This group has become our friends.

Last year we added our chickens house which includes 25 hens, with 25 more coming this year.
